During my Bachelor of Communication and Media at the University of Canberra, I undertook a semester long research project during my final year.
I wanted to examine the communication efforts that the Australian Government took to reach young Australians with critical health information during the COVID-19 pandemic. I won’t lie, it’s an academic paper not near as exciting as any campaign plan or copy you might otherwise find me writing. It does however showcase my interest in research, a vital step in devising any successful communication campaign.
If you do want to read it, luckily for you it’s only an undergraduate project and is therefore less than 5000 words long. But I’ll give you the TL;DR version: The Australian Government had limited effectiveness in reaching young people during the COVID-19 pandemic on social media. Future health communication campaigns, particularly those that target a younger demographic, should consider a comprehensive social media strategy that makes effective use of the platforms available.
